Obscure Ambiguity – Yin Yang – An Original Fable by Victoria Carolyne

Everyone has a Yin and Yang inside of them, and each one of them is unique. Our body is their home, called “Heart”, so they keep us safe from harm, and they are the reason, for me, that we made our choices unconsciously.

This is how I see them:

There is Yin – the gentle and empathetic being in my soul, the core reason why I don’t hold grudges for long.

And Yang – the violent one between the two. He will lash upon anything that gets in his way, but he will definitely protect Yin at all costs. But whenever Yang is in a temper, Yin always knows a way to calm Yang down.

They speak to us in a way that we can feel their connection intertwining deeply into our soul. It’s like 2 captains controlling the ship, each having their own role.

There are days when Heart meets other Hearts, who sometimes hurt her, or give her some sprinkles of joy. Most of the time Yang just observes from the back, allowing Yin to take the lead to keep out of trouble.

There are moments when Yang is needed, such as when Heart is doing her exams or playing a sport – providing her with the right amount of fire to keep her motivated and focused.

Sometimes Yin gets a slap or two from other Hearts, but she can recover pretty quickly despite Yang’s concerns. At times Yin allowed Yang to vent out when it was the right moment, which kept Heart in check.

But there were nights when Heart cried out knowing how much Yin had to go through, so Yang calmed Yin down and allowed her to heal as the body slept.

As time went by, Heart met more of her kind, and day after day Yin had to get tortured by the other hearts, Yang could not bear it any more. Shoving Yin aside before another wave of pain hits Heart as he releases his rage upon them, reflecting back the pain to the opposing Heart.

Yang’s reaction left a long-lasting impact, but to him, it is to keep Yin and their home safe from harm.

The other Hearts soon despised the vessel, throwing more pain and leaving them to drown in their sorrows. Yet Yang stood proudly over Yin, shielding her from the shower of arrows and spears from the other Hearts. Yin cried as she tried her best to take them out from Yang, wincing every time Yang screams in pain, but some are still stuck within Yang’s scarred body.

As Yin let Yang rest, she took the wheel in keeping Heart away from pain. But the other Hearts were still not convinced by Yin’s sincerity and attacked Yin relentlessly, but she still held on with a kind smile on her face while a tear trickled down her face.

With Yang still recovering from the attack, Yin broke down every time the day ended as she struggled to put Heart to bed. She reminded Heart and Yang that they’ve done a good job, spreading warmth despite her suffering.

As days turned to months, with Yang still in a deep slumber, one fateful night, Yin collapsed as Heart went to sleep, not waking up by the next morning – leaving Heart apathetic to the world around her.

With both of them gone, Heart could not process the world around her. All she could feel was pain, to the point she tried to take her own life but it failed countless times.

One fine moment, Yang woke up. He saw no one on the controls. Eventually, his eyes rested upon Yin’s fading battered body, unmoving. He rushed to her in horror, seeing the countless weapons impaling against her frail body, he embraced her in his arms.

He screamed in agony upon his fallen twin, and vowed to destroy anyone who dares to hurt Yin and his home. He could not feel the spears and arrows still left on his body, as it had already become a part of him, turning Yang into a menacing being.

Taking over the ship, he sailed through the relentless storm ahead of him, throwing back the spears and arrows onto the other Hearts. That is when Heart had become the monster she feared to be, and the other Hearts didn’t dare to hurt them anymore.

Every night, Yang missed Yin, hoping she’d wake up. He hated the feeling of isolation as the other Hearts left them.

Suddenly, after months of chaos, Yang felt someone familiarly warm wrapping her arms around him.

“You don’t need to fight anymore, I’m here and we are safe. I’m so proud of you” Yin’s voice vibrated through Heart, bringing Yang into tears, softening him.

Yin’s body still had the arrows and spears pierced, but it glowed beautifully despite the grotesque wounds. Yang vowed that they will never abandon each other, and fight side by side to keep their home safe.

At last, Heart was at peace.
